Security: (Remember, you cannot control whether security is on)
  1. Purpose: to see whether or not a page is encrypted (i.e. secure) in order to do credit card transactions, etc...
  2. Note: Encryption just means that the number you enter is coded when traveling through the network, and that only the person who is suppose to receive it will have the key to unlock the code.
  3. Look at the padlock on the toolbar, if you are on a secure page the padlock is locked.  Additionally, there is a padlock in the lower left side of the screen.
  4. If the padlock is unlocked the page is not secure (personally, I'm not going to put my credit card information in on a non-secure page)
  5. The page we are on now doesn't need security, therefore the padlock won't lock.
  6. Note: Clicking on the Security button doesn't turn it on, rather it shows you information about the pages security.  Remember again, you CANNOT turn security on, that is up to the people asking for your credit card #.
  7. Follow this link to see what a "locked padlock" looks like. (The link takes you to the Amazon.com shopping cart page).
